Baan Yamu and the east coast

Many visitors to Phuket stay on the west coast, facing the Andaman Sea. Cape Yamu is on the other side, the east coast, looking over Phang Nga Bay. Baan Yamu is a residential development there, with villas, duplexes and penthouses, and it is close to Ao Po Grand Marina. The area is lightly built up compared with the big west-coast resorts.

The east coast shoreline changes with the tide, so do not expect a west-coast beach at your door. Many guests plan their beach days across the island and use the views and the quiet at home. That makes a driver for the week useful, and the car with driver page explains how hiring one works. Boat trips into the bay leave from Ao Po Grand Marina nearby, and the Ao Por Marina page has more on it.

From the airport to Cape Yamu

The distance is 25 km and the drive takes about 31 minutes. Baan Yamu is a little farther than Ao Po Pier, which is 20 km and 27 minutes from the airport, so the difference is 5 km and 4 minutes. Both are on the east coast, away from the west-coast beach roads. The last stretch leaves the main road and follows local roads to the development.

PlaceDistanceDriving time
Pa Klok16 km20 min
Ao Po Pier20 km27 min
Baan Yamu25 km31 min

The sedan fare is 999 THB for all three. If you are going to the marina for a boat rather than to a villa, the Ao Po Pier page covers the timing.

Arriving at your unit

Baan Yamu has several types of unit, so a building number alone does not tell the driver where to stop. Send the name on your booking, the unit or villa number if you have it, and a map pin of the entrance. Add a phone number that works on arrival, so the manager or host can open up.

The area is lightly built up, and nearby shops are few. Ask your host to stock the kitchen before you land, and bring any medicine or baby supplies you cannot do without. Give the host your flight number. Landing, immigration, baggage and 31 minutes in the car add up, and the host can plan the key handover around that. If you land late at night, say so in advance.

Choose the car by luggage. The sedan takes up to 3 passengers with luggage, the SUV / MPV up to 4, the minibus up to 9. The VIP minibus takes up to 8 in a premium cabin, which suits a family villa group after a long flight.

Pick-up, timing and payment

Transfers run 24/7 and the driver follows your flight number, so a late flight does not cancel the pick-up. International flights meet at Gate 2 next to Exit 2, domestic flights at Gate A. Fast Track is available at the airport on arrival.

Trips on 24 December to 5 January carry a holiday surcharge of 400 THB per car. Pay by Visa, Mastercard or PayPal when you book.

Questions about this transfer

Where exactly is Baan Yamu?

On Cape Yamu, on Phuket's east coast, facing Phang Nga Bay. It is a different side of the island from Patong, Kata and the other west-coast beaches.

Is the price the same as to Ao Po Pier?

Yes. Both are 999 THB for a sedan and fixed per car. Baan Yamu is farther, 25 km against 20 km, but the fare does not change.

Can I use the same driver for days out after I arrive?

The site offers a private car with driver. See the car with driver page, then ask about your dates when you book.

What do I do if my host cannot meet me at my arrival time?

Tell the host your flight number and landing time when you book. Your driver can only take you to the address, so the key handover needs to be arranged with the host.

How do I pay?

When you book, by Visa, Mastercard or PayPal.
