How the pick-up at your hotel works
When you book you give three things: the hotel name, a map pin and your flight time. The driver arrives at the pick-up time you agreed, helps with the bags and sets off with no other passengers on board.
Kamala has hotels on the beach front and others set back in the old village, and the approach differs. The map pin tells the driver which entrance to use. If your hotel has a side lane or a gate that is hard to find, say so in the booking, and tell the front desk the time of your pick-up so your checkout is done before he arrives.
When to leave Kamala for your flight
The drive is 27 km and about 49 minutes in normal traffic. Add the time you want at the airport. A common rule of thumb is to be there about 3 hours before an international flight, and a little less for a domestic one; check your airline for its own check-in times.
Put those together and an international departure at 13:00 means being at the airport around 10:00 and leaving Kamala about 09:00, which keeps a margin on top of the 49 minutes. A domestic flight at 08:00 means being at the airport around 06:00 and leaving about 05:00. This is general advice, not a promise from the service, and you set the pick-up time yourself. The distance page has a table of departure times.
Before the driver arrives
A few small jobs make the pick-up smooth. Settle your bill with the hotel the evening before if you can. Bring the bags down to the lobby a few minutes before the agreed time. Keep passports and boarding passes in your hand luggage, not in a case that goes in the boot.
If you are travelling in a bigger group, count everyone and everything before you choose the car. Eight people with a case each can go in the VIP minibus, which has a premium cabin, or in the ordinary minibus, which takes up to 9. The ordinary minibus is 500 THB cheaper, and the VIP gives more comfort for the same drive of 27 km.
Choosing the car for the trip home
- Sedan, 999 THB: up to 3 passengers with luggage.
- SUV / MPV, 1,199 THB: up to 4 passengers with luggage.
- Minibus, 1,499 THB: up to 9 passengers with luggage.
- VIP Minibus, 1,999 THB: up to 8 passengers in a premium cabin.
Bags tend to be heavier on the way home than on the way in, after shopping and souvenirs. If you are near the limit for a sedan, take the next size. The price follows the car, so one extra bag is no reason to change the booking, but a fourth passenger is.
Early flights, late flights
Transfers run 24/7, so a 6 am departure and a 1 am departure are both fine. For an early flight, the driver is at your door in the dark and the roads are clear. Tell your hotel the night before that you will leave early, so the front desk has your bill ready and the gate is open. The same goes for a late departure: if your room is checked out at noon and the flight is at night, ask the hotel where the bags can wait until the driver comes.
The price does not depend on the hour. The only date-based change is the holiday surcharge of 400 THB per car for trips on 24 December to 5 January, which is also a busy time at the airport, so leave a larger margin.
What happens at the airport
The car stops at the departures hall of your terminal, close to check-in. Take your bags and go to your airline desk. The meeting points at Gate 2 and Gate A belong to the arrivals side and do not apply to a departure.
Fuel and tolls are in the fixed price, so there is nothing to settle at the kerb. Payment is made when you book, by Visa, Mastercard or PayPal.
What to send when you book

- The date and your flight time, with the flight number.
- The pick-up time you want, or ask the dispatcher to suggest one.
- The car size.
Coming in the other direction first? The arrival leg is on the airport to Kamala page.
Questions about this transfer
What time should the driver collect me in Kamala?
For an international flight, a rule of thumb is to be at the airport about 3 hours before departure. The drive takes about 49 minutes, so ask for a pick-up roughly 4 hours before your flight. Choose a little earlier in busy periods.
Do I need to give a flight number?
Give your flight number and departure time when you book, with the hotel name and a map pin. The driver uses them to plan the pick-up.
Will the driver find a hotel in the old village, away from the beach?
Yes, if you send the hotel name and a map pin. It makes no difference to the price.
Where does the car stop at the airport?
At the departures hall of your terminal, near check-in.
Can I travel with six people and luggage?
Yes, in the minibus. It takes up to 9 passengers with luggage and costs 1,499 THB for the car.
