Five options, and how each can fail
For a flight you cannot move, ask of each option: what happens if it does not show up?
| Option | Book ahead? | Biggest risk |
|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | Yes | Little: the time is fixed in advance |
| Hotel shuttle | Ask the hotel | Not every hotel runs one, and times are theirs |
| Taxi on the street | No | No car nearby at an early hour |
| Ride-hailing app | On the day | Driver supply and price change with demand |
| Rental car | Before you arrive | Returning it on time, and the drive itself |
Fares for the other options change, so check them on the day.
Pre-booked private transfer
You give the hotel name, a map pin and your flight time, and a driver comes to your door at the agreed time. The price is fixed per car: 999 THB for a sedan, up to 1,999 THB for a VIP minibus. It works at any hour, including a dawn departure. The car goes to the departures hall. For a solo traveller it costs more than a shared option. Book on the transfer page or see the price page.
Hotel or resort shuttle
Some hotels arrange rides to the airport. Ask at reception when you check in, not on the last morning, and find out the departure times, the price and whether the vehicle is shared. If the times suit your flight it is convenient. If not, you still need a plan B.
Taxi on the street
Nai Harn is a quiet part of the island, and a passing taxi is not guaranteed at 5 am. If you try this, leave plenty of time, agree the full price before you get in and keep a booked car as a backup.
Ride-hailing app
Apps help when a driver is nearby, but on a morning flight you may wait for one, see the price move or have a request declined. For a flight you cannot move, use an app as a fallback.
Driving a rental car to the airport
If you have a car for the whole stay, driving yourself saves the transfer. You still need to return it, refuel it as the rental company requires and keep left in traffic. Allow extra time for the handover. With a car you also carry the 1 hour 10 minutes of driving yourself on the day you are most tired.
A plan for the morning of the flight
- Fix the pick-up time the day before and confirm the hotel name and pin.
- Work back from the flight. Be at the airport about 3 hours before an international flight, a general rule of thumb, then add the drive.
- Have bags packed and ready at the door a few minutes early.
